Help Build Leadership at Every Level This Giving Season

The holidays are here, and with them the season of giving! Your support of our work at The Alaska Center means so much, and it directly strengthens our ability to deepen our impact across Alaska.
This year brought exciting wins, but we know that 2026 will be pivotal. Alaskans will elect a new governor, a U.S. senator, and key state and local leaders who will shape the future of our clean air and water, healthy communities, and a just transition. With the legislative session beginning on January 20, we’re ready to hit the ground running and finish the year strong for meaningful election results in November.
In 2025, we endorsed 13 candidates in local elections and all 13 of them won their races! These leaders now serve in the mayor’s office, on school boards, utility boards, and more. They are committed to climate action, community investment, and strengthening Alaska’s resilience. We’re excited to see their leadership unfold.
On the clean energy front, Katherine Jernstrom was elected to the Chugach Electric Association Board of Directors this spring, and soon after, the board unanimously approved the Beluga Solar Project. This 10-megawatt project will be the largest in the state! This progress reflects a broader national movement toward energy affordability, utility accountability, and climate resiliency, and Alaska is an essential part of that story.
We also remain dedicated to restoring the Eklutna River. Through the Eklutna River Restoration Coalition, we continue to advocate for a revitalized river and rebuilding a thriving salmon population. This August, we hosted an inspiring Wild Salmon Day with speakers Mary Peltola, Curtis McQueen, and Taralynn Agnacuungaq Agluryaq-Calista to honor Alaska’s salmon and the communities who work to protect them.
