Anchorage Assembly Endorsements

North Anchorage District 1: Daniel Volland

“I envision an Anchorage that is welcoming and accessible to all. A city that is full of possibilities for the builders, the dreamers, and the doers. A community that celebrates the best of our surroundings and that is intent on creating the most opportunity for everyone. In my first term, I’ve driven investments into early literacy programming, childcare and early education, behavioral health resources, and youth suicide prevention. I’ve sponsored and supported policies that support eco-friendly nonmotorized transportation options, strengthen noise pollution enforcement, and that make it easier to build affordable housing. I’ve supported good government by sponsoring the creation of Municipal online checkbook and putting privacy boundaries around the use of facial recognition technology. I’ve sponsored legislation that for the first time defined qualifications for the Chief Medical Officer. This is the type of local government work about which I’m very passionate.”

Daniel Volland, Candidate for Anchorage Assembly, District 1

West Anchorage District 3: Kameron Perez Verdia

“I’m running for re-election after serving two terms in the Assembly because I care deeply about our community. I’m motivated by listening to hardworking Alaskans who want practical, long-term solutions. By working together, we can continue improving public safety, strengthening our schools, and fostering sustainable solutions to homelessness.

I will always support having open conversations, a core component of a well-functioning democracy, about how our city can enhance sustainability. Addressing clean air and water and climate change are some of the most pressing issues of our time.”

Kameron Perez-Verdia, Candidate for Anchorage Assembly, District 3

Midtown Anchorage District 4: Erin Baldwin Day

“I’m a Midtown Anchorage kid from a working family, now raising my teenagers in the same neighborhood that shaped me. For the last fifteen years I’ve served my hometown as a nonprofit leader, coach, pastor, community organizer, and policy advocate. I’m running for office because I believe Anchorage’s future depends on creative leadership that works across lines of difference to uplift working people, prioritize sustainability, and build a resilient economy. My vision is an Anchorage where everyone has access to attainable housing, high-quality childcare, and reliable infrastructure.

It is in our collective best interest to plan for climate resilience now, while also taking meaningful steps to minimize our impact on accelerating climate change. Within my policy goals alone, the development of mixed-used and higher-density housing along with meaningful updates to our transportation infrastructure will contribute to walkable neighborhoods that lower our reliance on personal vehicles, reduce emissions, and improve our collective health outcomes. Factoring the present and future effects of emissions and climate change into municipal decision-making – including municipal fleet replacement, road construction & redevelopment projects, wildfire risk mitigation, daylighting waterways, developing community solar, etc. – is imperative for creating a climate-resilient and climate-responsible city.

Ultimately, I have a responsibility to examine every policy through the just transition lens and encourage my colleagues to do the same. I will oppose policies that benefit corporate structures at the expense of our community, enact policies that uplift workers, unions, and public health, and interrupt systems that do harm to our bodies, air, water, and land.”

— Erin Baldwin Day, Candidate for Anchorage Assembly, District 4

East Anchorage District 5: Yarrow Silvers

“I’m running for the Anchorage Assembly to ensure that East Anchorage has a strong, independent voice advocating for practical solutions to our city’s challenges. From tackling our housing crisis to improving public safety and government transparency, I’m committed to policies that make Anchorage a more vibrant and affordable city for all. My experience in community advocacy has shown me the power of people coming together to solve problems, and I’ll bring that same approach to the Assembly to ensure every resident has a seat at the table.”

— Yarrow Silvers, Candidate for Anchorage Assembly, District 5

Anchorage School Board Endorsements

Kelly Lessens, At-Large

“I’m running for re-election to the Anchorage School Board to help our community focus on our kids. We need a strong public school system to ensure our kids have ample opportunities and are prepared for life after graduation. Throughout my time on the Board, I have taken an evidence-driven, fiscally responsible approach to strengthening our public school system. Strong public schools are the foundation we can use to mold our students into leaders who are well-prepared to solve the pressing problems of the future.”

— Kelly Lessens, Candidate for School Board, At-Large

Margo Bellamy, At-Large

“I am running for a third and final term on the Anchorage School Board because I am committed to enhancing the academic, cultural, social, and emotional success of all children! A commitment to ensure that every child has the leadership, instruction, academic support, and opportunities that they need to become successful learners and participating citizens regardless of their individual differences. I am also proud to live in a community that values education and is invested in the education and well-being of all children.”

— Margo Bellamy, Candidate for School Board, At-Large

2025 Endorsement for Chugach Electric Association Board of Directors: Katherine Jernstrom

The Alaska Center Board of Directors is proud to unanimously endorse Katherine Jernstrom for the Chugach Electric Board. As a business owner, parent, and community leader, Katherine is deeply invested in Anchorage, and believes that affordable and reliable electricity is the foundation we need for a strong economy and a thriving community. There are drastic changes on the horizon for Alaska’s energy landscape, and Katherine has the experience necessary to navigate a period of major transition.

Utility cooperatives give members power to help guide the vision and future of how our energy is produced. We look forward to working together with our community to use our voices and votes to elect Katherine, and working with the Chugach Electric Board to create a just and sustainable energy future for Alaska.
