Phase One- Airport Heights

This initial round of the Solarize Anchorage campaign was conducted in the Airport Heights Community and assisted in selecting solar PV installers through a competitive bidding process. The campaign began with a steering committee comprised of The Alaska Center, Alaska Center for Energy and Power(ACEP), and Airport Heights residents. This committee managed the campaign timeline, developed the RFP, conducted installer interviews, and all outreach for the campaign. This committee along with additional Airport Heights residents formed the Interview Committee and selected Anchorage Solar as the bid winner through scoring of the criteria found in the RFP.

The campaign began in January of 2018 and was completed by the end of August 2018. Outreach for the campaign began in February and was conducted through a variety of community presentations, community council meetings, letters in the mail, and neighbors talking to neighbors. Anchorage Solar was selected as the installer in March and began a series of Community Workshops where participants could access more information and learn about the technology being used. Any interested participants could then sign up for a free site assessment and decide to sign the contract to participate. Installations started going up in May and throughout the duration of the summer.

At the end of the campaign, over 30 homeowners signed up to participate and a total of 146 kW of solar panels were installed. Through the campaign, homeowners received the Solarize discount, the federal Investment Tax Credits (ITC), and will save money through net-metering.
