Anchorage Showed Up — Thank You Voters!
On Election Day this week in Anchorage, we saw once again that every vote matters.
On election night, five of our six endorsed candidates had large leads from Anchorage voters. We are grateful for the ongoing service of Anna Brawley and George Martinez, who will both return to the Assembly for another term, joined by first time candidate and organizer Sydney Scout. Rachel Blakeslee and Paul McDonogh, both strong community leaders and parents, will step up to serve on the Anchorage School Board.
In District 4, we were proud to endorse Janice Park, whose hard work and dedication to public service made her the right choice for midtown. Over the past month, volunteers with The Alaska Center have gone out to knock doors for Park, sharing stories of what her candidacy meant to them.
As of last night, Park was trailing by just 21 votes with more ballots still being counted, showing the power that every voter has to decide our future.
As we watch for the final results in District 4, we are overjoyed to see the vast majority of our endorsed candidates prepare to lead. We have exciting opportunities to strengthen participation in our democracy, implement the Municipality’s Climate Action Plan to protect clean air and water, and invest in infrastructure that serves the common good. The Alaska Center’s staff and volunteers will stay engaged along the way.
We are so proud to have once again supported candidates who share our vision, and look forward to engaging in many more critical elections this year.
