Anchorage, AK — February 27, 2026 — Today, The Alaska Center announced its endorsements for the 2026 Anchorage Municipal Election, backing a slate of Assembly and School Board candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to climate action, democratic governance, and community-centered leadership.

Following a vote by its Board of Directors, The Alaska Center has endorsed candidates who have shown a clear dedication to serving Anchorage residents through public service, community involvement, and values-driven leadership.

For the Anchorage Assembly, The Alaska Center endorses:

• District 1 (Downtown Anchorage): Sydney Scout
• District 3 (West Anchorage): Anna Brawley
• District 4 (Midtown Anchorage): Janice Park
• District 5 (East Anchorage): George Martinez

For the Anchorage School Board, The Alaska Center endorses:

• Seat C: Rachel Blakeslee
• Seat D: Paul McDonogh

“In Anchorage, candidates are stepping up to serve their communities directly as the federal government repeatedly ignores and undermines the needs of the public,” said Alex Petkanas, Political Director at The Alaska Center. “As many Alaskans feel abandoned by members of the federal delegation who voted to cut health care and raise energy costs, Anchorage leaders have an opportunity to build on the trust in local government and strengthen our democracy while taking action to deliver on affordable, clean energy. We are thrilled to endorse champions who will stand up for clean air and water, a strong democracy, and healthy communities.”

Anchorage voters will cast their ballots in the municipal election on April 7, 2026.
