Road Proposals
Road proposals
The following are the roads that have been/may be proposed for the U-Med District:
1. University Lake Drive APU (east) extension. This road would bisect or be on the Mahaffey trail system, the APU soccer field, and next to or on the University Lake Municipal Park and popular dog park. It would potentially affect the Fur Rondy/Iditarod trail.
2. “Northern Access” road. A likely scenario would be a Elmore to Bragaw cut through. This would bisect or be on the university trail system including the Fur Rondy/Iditarod trail. It would also bisect the Northern Lights path and the APU to UAA path. If the current trails were to be preserved, at least 4 crossings would be involved.
3. University Lake Drive (west) and the UAA Sports Center. This expansion would likely involve two roundabouts, which – if you’ve ever biked Dowling – are dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, the expansion would remove wildlife habitat on the corner of Providence Drive and Elmore in order to construct the Sports Center.
