Anchorage Bicycle Plan
Anchorage has a bicycle plan!
Check out the Anchorage Bicycle Plan and find out how our community is planning to improve bicycle safety and ridership.
Here’s the Plan in less than 100 words:
- Goal is to double utility ridership, reduce injuries by 30%, and improve connectivity.
- Focus is on educating bicyclists and drivers about rights and responsibilities of sharing the road.
- Establish Anchorage as a leader in bicycle ridership and infrastructure among northern cities and make bicycling an integral part of transportation in Anchorage.
- Encourage and accommodate safe winter cycling.
- Develop a policy that requires accommodation of bicyclists in all new road construction.
The
money will come from a variety of sources including; federal stimulus
money, grants, and road funds. Remember, the cost of a four lane road
is an average of $20-80 million PER MILE and the entire bicycle plan
will provide 508 miles of bicycle connectivity priced at $124 million spread out over twenty years.
