CREEK CLEANUP — Calling all creek lovers!

The 29th Annual Anchorage Creek Cleanup and Celebration is Saturday, May 18.  Join your friends and neighbors for a Spring morning spent cleaning the Winter's trash from in and around our city's creeks, lakes, and coastline followed by a celebration featuring live music, prizes, and the Food Truck Rally.

ACE staff and volunteers are meeting at Valley of the Moon Park at 9 am - join us!

Or, clean up your neighborhood creek! From 9:00 AM until 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 18, there will be nine supply locations offering volunteers supplies such as bags and gloves and other information and support.  These volunteer-staffed supply sites will be located at the following locations:

  • Ship Creek (Post Rd. & Viking)
  • University Lake Park (at University Lake Drive)
  • Valley of the Moon Park
  • Fish Creek Park
  • Campbell Park (48th and Lake Otis Pkwy)
  • Peanut Farm
  • Taku Lake Park
  • Chester Creek Greenbelt Park (20th Ave. off Seward Hwy)
  • Cuddy Family Midtown Park

A map of these locations can be FOUND HERE <--click.

You deserve to celebrate!

AWC and our partner Anchorage Park Foundation, and wonderful sponsors invite all Creek Cleanup volunteers to celebrate the creeks and the amazing volunteer effort to care for them. This year's post-cleanup celebration will be held for the first time at Cuddy Family Midtown Park from 12:00 to 3:00 PM.  The Celebration will feature:

  • Music from Hot Dish
  • Door prize drawings for fantastic prizes like a raft trip from Alaska Wildland Adventures, gift certificates, and other cool stuff.
  • Educational booths
  • The "Food Truck Rally" - a gathering of Anchorage's best mobile-food options

It should be fun for all and we really hope everyone can be there!

Several important notes:

  • Wristbands:  The wristbands make volunteers eligible to enter the prize drawings (go to registration booth at the celebration by 2:00 PM to enter) and discounts at the Food Truck Rally.
  • Trash Collection:  Cleanup Volunteers should place their full garbage bags in as few piles as possible and always in a place that is accessible to a standard garbage truck. Place them along a street as opposed to on a trail or in the highway median. This ensures that the garbage companies that generously collect the trash piles can get to all of them.
  • Personal property questions:  If you are in doubt about whether certain items are garbage or someone's valued personal property, leave the item behind, but make a note of the location and report it to the volunteer at your supply site or matt@anchoragecreeks.org.
  • SAFETY:  Volunteers should always use caution when working around water and minimize risky activity to ensure the safety of themselves and their team.

 Happy cleaning!
