Join Alaska Center for the Environment, the Beartooth Theatrepub & Grill, Delicious Dave Catering, AK Root Sellers, NOLS, and Bioneers Alaska for the first Alaska Local Food Film Festival! The festival will take place October 2-8th at the Beartooth Theatrepub in Anchorage, and will feature the Anchorage debut of Food Inc, as well as the films the Garden, Eating Alaska, FRESH, and the End of the Line. There will be opportunities to eat fresh Alaskan food and discuss the films, as well as to learn more about how you can get involved with the Alaska local food movement.

The title: “Beyond Freeways – How to Link Land Use and Transportation” Robert Liberty authored Portland’s groundbreaking Land Use, Transportation & Air Quality Study (LUTRAQ), laying the foundation for Portland’s successful development strategies which spurred economic growth, kept property taxes down, provided transportation choices, reduced energy consumption per capita and improved air quality.

Documentary filmmaker Ken Burns will introduce his new series, The National Parks: America's Best Idea, next Thursday in Anchorage. At the event, Ken Burns will share some of his experiences and show a one- hour film celebrating Alaska's national parks. Proceeds will support the National Parks Conservation Association and Alaska Geographic.

Susitna Area Plan Workshop (Alaska center for the Environment, 807 G Street, from May 11, 2009 10:00 AM to May 11, 2009 12:15 PM)
ACE is hosting an informal workshop on May 11 at 10am to provide background, feedback and tips for crafting public comments in regards to two significant revisions of state plans and management guidelines in the Susitna area. The outcomes of these revisions will determine forestry management, land use, and the overall appearance of the region for decades to come, affecting tourism, commerce, local residents, and Anchorage area residents using the Matanuska-Susitna Borough for recreational purposes.
