Alaska State Parks, Chugach National Forest, National Wildlife Federation, and their many partners are exploring the concept of a Prince William Sound Marine Trail, a world-class water trail along the coast of Prince William Sound.

The Prince William Sound Marine Trail project addresses the inevitable growth of tourism. By developing an infrastructure for sustainable forms of tourism, the project aims to to attract visitors who will appreciate and respect the area's fragile wilderness.

The trail would extend from Whittier to Valdez to Cordova with a spur trail leading to the southwestern Sound. The trail would involve connecting a series of island and mainland sites for use by small groups and independent travelers in kayaks, sailboats, motorboats, and other small watercraft. Trail facilities would be located on municipal, state, federal, and private lands and include campsites, resting areas and safe havens.

Over the last two years, scoping efforts have indicated strong local interest in this project. For more detailed information, read the Marine Trail Concept Paper.

This Marine Trail project, along with the Prince William Sound Stories project, seeks to help a broad and diverse audience CONSERVE, ENJOY, and UNDERSTAND the Sound.
