The word permaculture is the contraction of permanent and culture. It is the way we were meant to live on the planet so that everyone/everything thrives. So this course is about learning to live sustainably—even in Alaska.
Permaculture begins with ethics of caring for the earth (and all its systems), caring for the basic needs of people (food, water, shelter, education, satisfying employment, and convivial human contact) and that all surplus time, energy, and resources be returned to the system to further those aims.
Hands On Projects may include:
Kitchen gardens
Rocket Mass Stove
Earth/Cob Oven
Sheet mulching/Soil building
Natural building with clay fiber
Field Trips may include visits to:
A whole system integrated farm
A rocket mass heater stove
An established orchard
Beekeeping
Members of ACE will receive a discounted registration!
