Background:

Multiple potential mining operations are located within the Matanuska Coalfield.  Wishbone Hill prospects have been permitted to Usibelli Coal Mine of Healy, Alaska and include rights to 7434 acres.  The Jonesville Mine has been permitted to Black Range Minerals and includes 1450 acres.  Hobbs Industry, Inc. has submitted applications to lease lands around Castle Mountain.  The Chickaloon lease lands cover 22,000 acres that are available for leasing from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority.
